Most men's first proper health assessment happens after something has gone wrong — this is the version that happens before…
This specific blood test panel assesses cardiovascular risk, metabolic and blood sugar health, hormonal balance, organ function and nutritional status, alongside prostate health where age-appropriate.
As with all BLISS panels, results are reviewed and explained in detail by a member of our medical team.
On testosterone
Total testosterone alone is a poor test. It has to be read alongside SHBG and free androgen index, drawn before 11am, and interpreted against your symptoms rather than a reference range. LH and FSH tell us whether a low testosterone originates in the testes or the pituitary — which changes what should be done about it entirely. Many men are told their testosterone is "normal" on the basis of a single number taken at the wrong time of day.
On PSA
PSA is genuinely useful and genuinely imperfect. It can be raised by things that are not cancer, and it can miss cancers that are there. Testing can lead to further investigation that turns out to be unnecessary. We will discuss what a raised result would mean before we take the sample, not after.
